Healing doesn’t always look like big, life-changing moments.

Sometimes it looks like small, quiet things you almost don’t notice—until you realize they’re the very things holding you together.

Right now, my healing looks a lot like my boys.

Daniel, with his endless love for cuddles and kisses. Somehow, he always knows when my heart feels a little heavier. He doesn’t ask questions—he just comes close, wraps himself around me, and loves me in the way only a child can. And in those moments, something inside me softens without me even trying.

Carter, always having his mama’s back. There’s a steadiness in him that amazes me. He notices things. He cares deeply. He stands beside me in a way that feels far beyond his years.

Daniel and his love for blankets and keys—his own little treasures. He’s like a tiny version of Linus, carrying comfort with him wherever he goes, leaving a trail of life behind him. It’s messy and sweet and so completely him.

Carter and his curiosity. The brightest 7-year-old I know. He wants to understand everything—from the depths of the ocean to the stars in the solar system. His wonder pulls me into it too, reminding me that there is still so much beauty and mystery in this world. And just like me, he remembers everything… which keeps me on my toes.

Daniel’s laugh—the kind that starts small and turns into a full, uncontrollable belly laugh. The kind that fills a room and makes it impossible not to join in. That laugh heals something in me every single time.

And Carter’s jokes… oh, his jokes. They don’t always make sense. Actually, most of the time they don’t. But he tries so hard, and they’re so random that you can’t help but laugh anyway. Not because they’re good—but because he is.

The memories we’re building now feel different too. There’s no one in our home tearing them down. No one overshadowing them. We get to just… live. Laugh. Be loud. Be messy. Be us.

And that has been healing in a way I didn’t even know I needed.

Sidewalk chalk has become one of my favorite things. There’s something about drawing a game outside and watching your kids—and even other neighborhood kids—stop and play. Watching them laugh, run, and just be kids. It’s like watching little pieces of joy ripple outward. Little bright spots in someone else’s day… and mine too.

And sleep.

Real, peaceful sleep.

Not the kind where you’re half-aware, waiting for something to go wrong. But the kind where you actually rest. Where your body and your mind get a break. Where you wake up feeling just a little more whole than the day before.

Even dreaming has started to feel different—dreaming about the future, about trips, about what life could look like. Planning a vacation, imagining the laughter, the memories we’ll make… it gives me something to look forward to.

And maybe that’s what healing looks like right now.

Not perfect.

Not finished.

But full of small, bright moments that remind me I’m moving forward.

Thread by thread.

Moment by moment.

Being held together by laughter, love, and two little boys who don’t even realize they’re helping stitch me back together.
